The Student Union Bar has been modernised. Some of the tables & chairs are a bit old but it's a student bar so who cares!? The bar and bar area have a modern feel, with nice lighting and several wide screen TVs around the walls, which were muted when I went at lunchtime. The staff are friendly and helpful.I didn't see a menu because my friends and I went on a Thursday, when there is a market in the square just outside the bar, with stalls selling noodles, curries, samosas and baked goods, hot dogs, etc. You are allowed to take this 'outside' food into the bar and use a table if you are drinking there. The bar prices are reasonable. You don't have to be a student to be served. Owing to the large number of young students, the atmosphere is vibrant and happy. I enjoyed my visit and will go back.My only criticism is that the only real ale consisted of two very pale ales - there was no bitter or stout/porter other than Guinness.
