As much as most places look German in Hanhdorf, this bakery is the first place we visited that felt German. We were hunting for a hot jam donut (aka Berliner) and another bakery said they didnt have any. When I first asked at The German Cake Shop the staff member said they usually only make them at the weekend (it was a Wednesday) but offered to make us some on the spot. So, not only did we get what we wanted, we got them as fresh as possible.

A quaint interior with good range of traditional german fare. The system of ordering is a bit confusing at first - order takeaway at the counter, but get a table number BEFORE ordering if you plan to eat in! I enjoyed a bratwurst and sauerkraut, and a tart. The bee sting is very popular in our family (Bienenstich Kuchen).

Decoration is beyond anything, you have to see!! The cakes werent bad either and some definitely German (more German than Ottos bakery).
