This is, in my view, the best traditional pub in the Mansfield area. It is like stepping back in time to the sort of pubs that I liked at the beginning of my drinking career in the early seventies. The pub is quiet and welcoming and serves remarkably well kept cask beers. The landlady and her daughter, whom I taught many years ago, when she was eleven are always welcoming and are willing to make pleasant conversation, when they have time. The pub makes one welcome and is traditional, but makes one useful, appreciated and unobtrusive concession to modernity - it has effective wi-fi, which leads to me occasionally taking my laptop there to peacefully work, whilst enjoying an excellent pint.
I would commend this pub to civilised and well-behaved pub goers. It is a little gem!
