This was the best meal I've had in a long time. From the Welcome Drink to the final sorbet, everyone in our group loved every course. I can't recommend The Gates highly enough.

Overall the staff carry this restaurant, they were lovely and welcoming but everything else wasn’t worth the price point. It says vegetarian friendly on the website but there was only one vegetarian option for each course, so if you didn’t like that tough luck. The zucchini flowers, olives and tomato entree was soaked in balsamic vinegar to the point that most of it was largely inedible (I should have sent it back). The ravioli while really delicious was less substantive than my partners meat dish (even considering it was fine dining). As a vegetarian you are missing out. The decor would have been in fashion about 15 years ago. Shiny silver sparkly curtains in the best restaurant in regional NSW does not make sense. The other dining area seemed to be more up to date, and the courtyard was quite pretty. The meal was enjoyable and the dining experience was pleasant but we weren’t blown away considering the amount of fresh produce and locally sourced ingredients right on their doorstep.

I have to state upfront that the benchmark I'm using is Muse, which was exceptional. This restaurant falls well short of that benchmark. The food is just OK, but there is no wow factor in either presentation or flavours. The duck was bland, and the kingfish uninspiring. The service was by and large fine. Overall, I was expecting better from this restaurant, but it was ultimately a disappointing experience. To truly position themselves as fine dining, and to justify their pricing, they need to do better.
