I have a lot of respect for Rick Stein, but his restaurant on Fistral Beach is terrible. It offers both eat in and takeaway with a limited fish and chip style menu, as well as some curry. On a reasonably busy evening in August, we put our name down for a table and waited an hour. The restaurant itself is depressing, despite the amazing view (it overlooks the beach). An old people's home would have had more atmosphere. You order at your table and pay at the same time via a QR code, which is fine, but a bit clunky. And it annoys me when you're asked to add a tip when you haven't even had any food or service at that point. Half the menu items were unavailable, despite it being early evening. The drinks arrived within minutes but the food took 25 mins, and arrived in take away packaging despite us eating in. Food portions were miserly, especially given the price (around 20 pounds per main dish once you'd added accompaniments like sauces). The food itself was average. Overall the experience felt like a rip off. Rick - if you're reading this, you should take note that this establishment sullies your otherwise good name. And for the good folks of Newquay, if you're after fish and chips, go and support your local chippy.
